Fattoria Valiano is one of the properties owned by Piccini 1882, one of the best known and most exported brands in Tuscany, the result of an ambitious project called 'Generazione Terra', aimed at enhancing some of Italy's excellent wines. In this case, Fattoria Valiano intends to be the voice of Chianti Classico, with the headquarters of the estate located within the Castelnuovo Berardenga area, on the southern side of the denomination. Today Piccini 1882 is led by the fifth generation of the Piccini family, represented by Ginevra, Benedetta and Michelangelo Piccini. As for the name Valiano, this derives from the name of an ancient Roman condottiere, who was given land because of his merits in war.

The Fattoria di Valiano property covers 230 hectares, 75 of which are reserved for vineyards. These are mainly planted on clay soils rich in skeleton, at an average altitude of 350 metres above sea level with a prevalent south-westerly exposure. The varieties grown include Sangiovese, the emblem of the Chianti region, and a combination of traditional and international grapes, such as Colorino, Canaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay. In order to preserve the integrity of the bunches and to process only the best grapes, the harvest is carried out entirely by hand with a rigorous selection in the cellar. This is followed by destemming and crushing and then separate vinification according to grape variety and vineyard location. All fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with a maceration period on the skins of between 7 and 15 days, with the exception of the Chardonnay, which is vinified white. This is followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation and the ageing phase, which takes place mainly in large Slavonian oak casks, with smaller quantities matured in small French oak casks of 225 and 500 litres.

The wines that Piccini 1882 produces under the Fattoria Valiano label aim to reflect the extraordinary qualitative vocation of the Chianti Classico area, in particular of the Castelnuovo Berardenga territory. These are tasty wines, endowed with intense fruity and spicy overtones, characterised by a modern style aimed at both the domestic and international markets.
