Fratus

Located in the Franciacorta district, precisely within the municipality of Cologne, Fratus sparkling wine reality is driven by the intention of expressing the truest essence of the territory, without filters or sophistication. Pursuing this objective, the Fratus family adopts genuine agronomic and oenological practices, respecting the environment and the identity of its sparkling wines. The Fratus family embarked on wine production in the 1960s with the founder of the family, Giovanni Fratus, who, after a series of experiences at the best hotels and restaurants in Switzerland and Germany, took over the Riccafana estate, consisting of an abandoned landed property and an old 15th-century Lombard farmhouse, which he had renovated. Today the business is in the hands of Giovanni's son Riccardo, who shares with his father the same innovative vision focused on quality.

The Riccafana estate of the Fratus family has 15 hectares of vineyards located on the southern slope of Monte Orfano, planted on clay-limestone soils with a strong mineral component. Compared to other areas of Franciacorta, the southern area of Monte Orfano is characterised by less rainfall, favouring optimal ripening and perfect health of the grapes. The vineyards are dedicated to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, varieties that have been grown since 2006 following the rules of organic farming, a factor that makes Riccardo Fratus a forerunner of organic farming in the area. In the winery, vinification takes place in thermoregulated stainless steel tanks and, to a lesser extent, in wooden barrels, while mousse is obtained in the bottle according to the Metodo Classico method, associated with prolonged stays on the lees. Dosages are then kept fairly low so as to enhance the wine's purest expression.

Franciacorta wines by Fratus are endowed with a taut and balanced taste, with beautiful progression and clean, well-defined aromas. The flagship label of the selection is the Franciacorta Millesimato Dosaggio Zero, a bubble of rare elegance and organoleptic complexity.
