Kurtatsch's Lagrein is an intense, enveloping red, produced from one of the oldest grape varieties in South Tyrol and genetically similar to Syrah. The nose releases vigorous notes of red fruits and spices. In the mouth, fine-grained tannins and a well-balanced structure provide a juicy and persistent sip. Ideal with a stew with polenta

The Lagrein from the Kurtatsch Winery represents an intense, fruity interpretation of this prized South Tyrolean grape variety that is inextricably linked to the history of the region. Lagrein is in fact considered the noblest of the indigenous South Tyrolean grape varieties, appreciated since ancient times for its ability to give rise to wines with a full, enveloping flavour. This variety finds its ideal habitat in the warmest and sunniest areas of the region, such as the low hillsides in the Kurtatsch area.
Sudtirol Cantina Kurtatsch Lagrein is made exclusively from grapes of the black berry variety of the same name, cultivated on the first hillside in the Kurtatsch area, on clayey-sandy soils rich in gravel. The agronomic conduction adopted by the contributing members is based on sustainable viticulture. Once in the cellar, the grapes are vinified in red with alcoholic fermentation on the marc in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. This is followed by complete malolactic fermentation and then ageing in large wooden casks and cement vats. Following further appropriate resting in glass, the wine is finally ready for release.
To the eye, the Sudtirol Lagrein of Cantina Kurtatsch expresses an intense ruby red colour. On the nose, dense fruity aromas of cherry, blackberry and black plum combine with light spicy hints of pepper and clove. The taste is warm and juicy, with a fine-grained tannic texture and a lingering fruity finish. Due to its intense character, this Lagrein requires pairing with rather tasty foods, such as cured meats and mature cheeses or first and second courses of red meat.
