Isola dei Nuraghi 'Perdularju' Piede Franco 2022

Piede Franco's Isola dei Nuraghi 'Perdularju' is a velvety Sardinian red wine of powerful complexity. Created from a blend of local and international grape varieties, including Carignano, Syrah and Cabernet Franc, this bottle encapsulates the essence of the island of Sant'Antioco while managing to express the strong character of French wines with a typical Bordeaux style. It is no coincidence that "Perdularju" means "wanderer" and the flamingo on the label represents the flamingo, a symbol that personifies wandering the skies of Europe retracing the places of origin of the grapes that make up the blend. Enveloping and well-structured in body, it releases long aromas of ripe red fruit and spices, and pairs perfectly with cured meats and cheeses

ISOLA DEI NURAGHI 'PERDULARJU' PIEDE FRANCO 2022 DESCRIPTION

Isola dei Nuraghi 'Perdularju' from Sardinian winery Piede Franco is a red wine that can combine theMediterranean identity of Sulcis and the varietal character of international grape varieties with surprising harmony. The Sardinian term "perdularju" means "wanderer," a name inspired by the flamingo, an animal also represented on the label. Over the course of the year, this bird, which is particularly common in Sardinia, makes long migratory journeys, moving from Europe to Africa, like a true wanderer, touching areas destined for the cultivation of the grapes featured in this blend. Roberto Matzeu, a winemaker at the helm of the Piede Franco estate, decided to plant international grapes in Sant'Antioco when, in preparing a new vineyard, he realized that the composition of clay and trachyte that characterized part of the parcel was unsuitable for free-foot cultivation, so he decided to experiment with the use of some French grape varieties.

Piede Franco Isola dei Nuraghi 'Perdularju' consists of a blend of Carignano, Syrah and Cabernet Franc grapes, the former grown on free-range on sandy soils while the Syrah and Cabernet Franc grown on soils rich in clay and trachyte. The grapes are vinified separately with alcoholic fermentation in contact with the skins followed by malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Instead, a combination of tonneau and small French oak barrels is adopted for the 12-month aging phase.

'Perdularju' Piede Franco Isola dei Nuraghi is deep ruby red with garnet hues. The nose has hints of ripe, almost wilted berries and myrtle, enhanced by intense spicy and balsamic hints. Enveloping, full-bodied and well-structured sip, endowed with a velvety tannic texture to accompany the long, complex finish.
