Gewurztraminer 'Brenntal' Riserva Kurtatsch 2022

The Gewurztraminer 'Brenntal' Riserva by Kurtatsch winery is an intense wine with great warmth. 'Brenntal' literally means 'burning valley' and refers to the very warm microclimate of the vineyards, which allows the Gewürztraminer to develop a strong personality. Intense floral hints on the nose open the scene to typical exotic fruit scents, to which hints of candied fruit and balsamic hints are added on the finish. With an imposing structure, the sip is warm and ample, but without lacking freshness and balance

GEWURZTRAMINER 'BRENNTAL' RISERVA KURTATSCH 2022 DESCRIPTION

Gewurztraminer 'Brenntal' Riserva is a white wine with a generous aromatic vein, produced in South Tyrol by the Kurtatsch cooperative from this pink grape variety whose origin is still shrouded in uncertainty. Although its name, which literally means 'spicy from Tramin', would in fact suggest a direct descent from South Tyrol, genetic studies have instead revealed that Gewurztraminer belongs to the Savagnin-Traminer family, originating in the area corresponding to the current south-western side of Germany. What is certain is that this aromatic variety succeeds in providing top-quality expressions in South Tyrol, which are softer and more full-bodied than their Alsatian counterparts, the other land of choice for this variety.

The 'Brenntal' Riserva Kurtatsch Gewurztraminer is made from pure grapes of the aromatic variety of the same name grown within the sub-zone of Brenntal, in the municipality of Cortaccia, on red sandy-clay soils characterised by a high concentration of clay minerals and oxides. The vines are located in a warm and windy position, at an altitude between 220 and 300 metres above sea level, on a steep slope and with a south-eastern exposure. In the cellar, the grapes are vinified using the white wine method with alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. Maturation on the fine lees follows for about a year between cement tanks and further stainless steel containers, with final release taking place no sooner than a further 6 months in the bottle.

Kurtatsch's Gewurztraminer Riserva 'Brenntal' is an intense golden yellow colour. The nose offers rich varietal aromas of macerated flowers such as peony and yellow rose and tropical fruits such as lychee and mango, combined with hints of candied orange peel and lavender. The sip is soft, structured and full-bodied, with enveloping warmth well supported by freshness and minerality in a deeply aromatic finish.
