BAROLO 'OTIN FIORIN - PIÈ RUPESTRIS' MAGNUM CAPPELLANO 2020 DESCRIPTION

The Barolo Otin Fiorin Piè Rupestris is a hymn to the wine-growing Langhe, an austere, three-dimensional liquid. The Cappellano family, like the Mascarello, Rinaldi and other locals, is one of those that has set the course and marked out wine production in one of the world's most vocated terroirs. Always sheltered from passing fashions and modern interpretations, the Cappellanos have remained attached to the concept of wines that are above all healthy, to be waited for with patience, bastions of what true Barolo should be. A century and a half of history and 4 hectares, located in Serralunga d'Alba, cultivated without the use of chemicals or synthesis, since time immemorial. No words can describe the winery as well as the bottles that come out of it, sullen and compact when young, but already endowed with an exciting aromatic range. To be waited for, even years, to enjoy renewed complexity.

Otin Fiorin Piè Rupestris wine is a Barolo from one of the most renowned cru of Serralunga d'Alba, the Gabutti. The pure Nebbiolo grapes come from very old vines over 60 years old, and the plot size is only 1.5 hectares. After manual harvesting and careful sorting of the bunches, the grapes are taken to the cellar for destemming, and then the must ferments spontaneously using only indigenous yeasts. Refinement of the liquid takes place for 18 months in large casks, without filtering.

The red Otin Fiorin Piè Rupestris is an ode to typicality, right from its intense garnet colour. The nose is layered and austere, whose compactness might initially intimidate. A little patience, and here it lavishes brushstrokes of liquorice, dog rose and violet, always with discreet hints. Evolution broadens its aromatic profile with hints of underbrush, tar and leather, as well as intensifying it. On the sip the liquid reveals itself to be a true monument, it has the stuff of champions with a dense matter in which freshness, savouriness and tannin are set together. Very long persistence, not only in the mouth but also in the memory. Outstanding marathon runner.
