Chenin Blanc ‘Samurai’ Oenosapiens 2023

The ‘Samurai’ from Oenosapiens is a complex and elegant Chenin Blanc in purity. The first white wine produced by the Languedoc Roussillon cellar, it stands out for its enveloping and distinctly mineral character, a characteristic due to the soils rich in limestone and siliceous rocks on which it is made. White peach, apple, hawthorn, honey and wet stone play the leading roles in this harmonious dance of freshness and sharp savouriness, conveying a lively and sharp wine, although, at heart, delicate and very fine

CHENIN BLANC ‘SAMURAI’ OENOSAPIENS 2023 DESCRIPTION

The 'Samurai' Chenin Blanc is the first white wine from the young Oenosapiens project, the result of the collaboration between Federico, Filippo and Giacomo and the Loire winegrower Julien Mesnard. This collaboration thus gave rise to this Chenin Blanc of great freshness and minerality, whose appellation 'Samurai' is a play on words with the name 'Saumur', the territory from which the grapes used for this label come. In addition, the samurai sword is intended to recall the sharp acidity that characterises the wine, very typical of the grape variety. For the winemaking room, the Oenosapiens guys collaborate with Ana and Candela of Must Be Wine, a reality located in Parnay, along the Loire river, a stone's throw from the city of Saumur.

The Chenin Blanc 'Samurai' of Oenosapiens is a 100% Chenin Blanc whose grapes come from certified organic vineyards planted on limestone soils dating back to the Jurassic period, characterised by a high presence of flint, which is the basis of the distinct sapid-mineral component of this wine. Once the grapes have reached the ideal degree of ripeness, manual harvesting is carried out, followed by soft pressing of the bunches. The must then undergoes spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks with the sole intervention of indigenous yeasts, while the subsequent ageing phase, which lasts 6 months, takes place on the fine lees in old oak barrels.

In the glass, the Chenin Blanc Oenosapiens 'Samurai' shows a pale straw yellow colour with greenish reflections. Floral and white-fleshed fruit recalls characterise the olfactory texture together with hints of citrus fruits and a marked mineral vein donated by the soils on which the grapes grow. In the mouth, the important freshness and savouriness is well supported by the enveloping sip, contributing to the elegant and taut development of excellent balance, with structure and persistence.
